We have had the pleasure of working with Max over several years with various horses of ours that have had training issues. His simple, yet effective approach in dealing with these issues has helped us no end. His easy to follow steps have made dealing with problem horses & also general training of horses much more effective. His understanding of horses psychology is unbelievable. A true inspiration & a true horseman - I have learnt so much from him.

I have had the best time ever & I mean EVER! The course was completely brilliant, I've learned so much & my horse Archie was a superstar. It totally surpassed everything I hoped for, just genius. Pieces of the jigsaw puzzle started falling into place for both of us & it was utterly exhilarating.

Hi, just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks Max for keeping our ponies & now horses (Zaronda) feeling on top of the world! Max has been looking after them for the past four years. He first treated Rapkyns Paddys Day (Patsy) at a premier pony show after she had been having fences down & just not jumping how she normally did. Patsy & I never looked back! Max has treated several of our European Team Gold Medallist ponies & horses, as well as those for our owners having a positive effect on every single one, not only with physical issues but also behavioural & performance problems. Both Max & William deal with every horse individually, taking as much time as needed. William is a real chip off the old block with a natural flair & feel for what he does. I never hesitate to recommend you guys, I just wish you lived round the corner!

Max helped me turn the corner with a hugely talented young dressage horse, who I was really struggling to keep focused & relaxed in his work. His multi-dimensional approach meant that we not only worked on the horse's ridden work, but also on groundwork to improve his obedience. He gave me the tools to work with on my own & we haven't looked back since his visit. I have worked with several horse behaviourists over the years when I have reached cross roads with difficult horses, but Max's approach is by far the most relevant for developing the competition horse.

Great teacher, great horseman & great sense of humour!

I didn't sign up to do anything about my confidence, I have just learnt to live with low level nagging nerves before I ride - but I spent the course pushing all my comfort zones & didn't feel a single twinge of nerves the whole time. I woke up each morning itching to get back in the saddle & loved every minute of it.

Twenty four years ago when I was working with Max he then a special gift when it comes to the long faced animals. One of the most naturally talented people I know when it comes to all equine matters.
I must have had so much advice from various people about my young boy & no matter what I tried things just didn't work. An old friend introduced me to Max & WOW my horse became polite with a completely different learning approach.
The first session (in 199) completely changed my understandings, my approaches & my attitudes. Max had the answers both for me and my horse Moses & he was able to share these with us in a way that has been lasting & deep.

He's a genius!! I recently embarrassed him by introducing him to a friend as the greatest living horseman, Every lesson/clinic I've had with Max I've learnt more than in all my years added together. He is approachable, shares info freely & he has an amazing sense of when to push you & when not to. So you achieve way more than you expected but always feel safe.
I have seen how effective Max is with the horses, not only understanding how to pacify them when they are challenging but also helping 'fix' them when they are sore. I would always ask Max to come as soon as I have a new horse in the yard, as I would only want to work the horse once I am confident it is physically able to cope with harder work.

Every time, I have a little problem or issue, my head says, what would Max do? How would he react? The answer often comes: just do it, get on with it, mean it, and follow it through, always be calm, consistent and confident, the horse will respect you more and listen, it works!

Just thought l would say thank you all very much for the course last week. I have not yet come down to earth properly. What a great success it was for me & my horse, I achieved all my goals & more besides. I have been trying to get a right lead canter for over three years, having lesson after lesson from various instructors - it took one session with Max (what a guy).
Your all made us feel very welcome & thank you once again. I hope to attend another course at some point l will be keeping my eye the web site. Made me realise you're never too old to learn new things in life. I am now looking forward to achieving more in the future. Can't keep going on or I will be here all day & I have to go practice!
Richard does not just talk at the rider but involves them in the whole process. He not only has amazing skills with horses but has superb people skills as well - (Jill has represented GB on nine separate occasions!)

I'd just like to thank you all again for the course this week. Everyone was so friendly & welcoming, the facilities were excellent & Max's teaching surpassed all my expectations. For some 17 years I have worked hard to improve my ability to work with my horse. I have had countless lessons & read endlessly & it all seemed such a battle! Obviously, I did pick up a certain amount in all those years &d I never gave up hope (horses seem to do that for you despite all the setbacks!) but I was resigned to the fact that I would never be good enough to really improve my horse's way of going.
I bought Wederik rising 4 & although I had made some progress with him it seemed as though through my lack of ability he was destined to be very mediocre. He certainly had the potential, but how was I to develop the seemingly unattainable engagement & softness? Over the 4 days I experienced such a change in the feel of my horse & it was gained with no force or fight. I'd always believed this should be possible but nobody could help me to find out how! Max is a genius - not just in the way he works with horses, but in the way he can teach others (ordinary riders like myself not just the talented). I really do feel that I have come home with the means to help my horse improve whilst we both enjoy the work, until we can return for our next session. His methods are so simple and logical, yet so revolutionary!
Max dedication to helping everyone understand his principles & his patience must have been truly appreciated by everyone. He was never too busy to talk horses, even in breaks!
Our talented mare had qualified for Newcomers second rounds but decided at Rowallen that she did not like long water. We did not hesitate to box our mare up & travel her from the North East to Essex, where in one afternoon Max transformed her into a horse that since has never once even hesitated at a long-water!
Philip Jones MRCV - Scotland
So much to say but primarily THANK YOU Max & Sam for such an awesome clinic - the learning was incredible & the whole family team were so brilliantly welcoming. I'm a bit blown away by the whole thing.
Hester M - East London
If you've recently enjoyed a session or clinic with Richard we'd love to hear your thoughts!
